Designed for The Field Museum, THEATRES OF NATURE is a 68-page softcover book showcasing The Field's world-class historically-significant diorama collection. Written by Sally Metzger, PhD, with an introduction by John W. McCarter, Jr., the book includes a brief history, a section dedicated to an in-depth look at ten selected highlights of the collection, and a comprehensive catalogue listing all 85 dioramas—51 mammal and 34 bird—alphabetically by name. Each entry, accompanied by a black-and-white thumbnail image for reference, includes the scientific name, date of creation, relevant expedition and/or specimen information, and credits for taxidermy work and landscape painting.
